Maroons??

What is a Maroon – fierce fighters made up of runaway slaves in the Caribbean. Or so they say.

For more info – see Wikipedia

Note from Glynn Legg – Thought all you alumni might want to know that the big topic of discussion here in Robinson now that the Maroons have state-wide acclaim is “Where did the team name Maroons come from?”

The consensus seems to be that we were originally the Robinson North-end Football team.
We are technically the Fighting Maroons (“Fighting” borrowed from “Fighting Illini” and Maroon and White was first associated with the team circa 1925. Allegedly, Maroons were rebellious Jamaican slaves who never gave up the fight and couldn’t be defeated. Sounds like a good definition to me!

Former principle Phil Trapani came up with “A Maroon is a Winner!”

Apparently it has nothing to do with that crayon mascot we voted for back in the day…

Now we know – Thanks Glynn
